From Arizona to Tennessee: My Road-Trip Adventure to Knoxville
Hey friends! If we haven’t met yet, I’m Bethany Hicks, the photographer behind A New Look At Photography—and I just made the big move from Arizona to Knoxville, Tennessee! But instead of hopping on a plane, I decided to turn this transition into an epic cross-country road trip, taking in the sights and enjoying the journey along the way.
The Journey: From Desert Sunsets to Smoky Mountain Views
After spending 23 years in Arizona, I knew saying goodbye wouldn’t be easy. But what better way to soak in the change than by road-tripping through the heart of the country? I packed up my car, hit the open road, and embraced the adventure, stopping to experience new places, taste local food, and reflect on this exciting new chapter.
The Most Memorable Stops Along the Way
This trip was more than just a move—it was an experience. Here are some of the most unforgettable places I passed through before settling into Knoxville, Tennessee:
- New Mexico – The wide-open landscapes and endless sky made for the perfect stretch of open road to clear my mind.
- Texas – Long highways, quirky roadside attractions, and some of the best food of the trip!
- Arkansas – Rolling hills and lush greenery (or at lest it would have been if I wasn't driving in January) were a beautiful contrast to the desert landscapes I left behind.
- Tennessee – Driving into the menphis was the moment it really hit me—I was home even thought i was still 6 hours way from where I currently live. Knoxville welcomed me with open arms, and I knew I had made the right choice!

There’s something special about this city. As a Knoxville photographer, I’m already loving the variety of locations for sessions—from the historic charm of Market Square to the scenic rivers and rolling hills. Knoxville offers the perfect mix of urban and nature, which means endless creative opportunities for my clients.
